Understanding Your Attachment

Begin lesson 1 0 of 6 lessons done

Anyone who has ever sent a message and then watched the screen. Anyone who has gone quiet on someone they love and been unable to explain why, even to themselves. Anyone who has been called needy, or clingy, or too intense, and felt the word land somewhere old. Anyone who has been called cold, or distant, or hard to reach, and known it was not the truth. This is not a course about what is wrong with you or with the people you love. It is a course about what happens to both of you when closeness stops feeling certain, and what can be done about it.

What you will gain

A clear, non-clinical picture of the strategy you learned for handling uncertainty in connection. An understanding of where it came from, offered without blame toward anyone, including the people who raised you. The ability to recognise the cycle two people fall into when their strategies collide, while it is happening rather than a day later. A way to translate protest and shutdown into what they are actually saying. Language for asking for reassurance without panic in it, and for giving reassurance without resentment underneath it. And, most importantly, the evidence that none of this is fixed.

A safety note. this course is education and guided self practice. It is not therapy, it is not a diagnosis, and it is not crisis care. Nothing here is a label to hand to a partner. If what surfaces feels like more than you can hold alone, please reach out to a qualified professional or your local support service. And if any of this describes a relationship where you are being frightened, controlled or harmed, the material in this course does not apply. That is not a cycle to be understood together. That is a situation to get support with.
